Short links and link stripping

Count clicks on the links in your posts, and remove links where a platform shows linked posts to fewer people.

When a post goes out, SociaHive can replace each link in it with a short link of its own, https://www.sociahive.com/l/<code>, that sends people on to your page and counts the clicks per day.

Short links and link stripping are on every plan.

Choose once in Content scheduler › Manage › Short links:

SettingWhat happens
Ask for each post (default)The composer asks "Shorten links in this post?" when a post has links. No answer means no.
AlwaysEvery link is shortened.
NeverLinks go out as you wrote them.

The answer you give on a post is kept with the post and wins over the setting.

  • Links are shortened when the post is published, not while you edit it. Each account the post goes to gets its own short link, so clicks are counted per account.
  • A publish that is retried sends exactly the same text, with the same short links.
  • Links already made by SociaHive (/l/ and /r/) are left as they are.
  • A link to a private or internal address, or one that is not http or https, is not shortened.
  • X Articles, stories and "remind me to post" posts are never changed.
  • The length check when you schedule counts a short link wherever it is longer than the link you wrote, so a post accepted then is never too long when it goes out.

Clicks from link previews and crawlers are not counted, and nothing about the visitor is stored.

In the composer, Remove links takes links out of the post and its thread parts on the platforms you tick (off everywhere by default). On Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn and YouTube the first link goes in the first comment when the post has none; on other platforms the link is dropped, and the composer says so. A post that would be left empty keeps its link.

Through the API, set the target metadata strip_links: "true" (and shorten_links: "true" or "false" for the per-post answer).
